From kitset to complete oven

With prefabricated components, clear instructions and support along the way, the kitset is designed to make building your own wood fired oven straightforward for anyone comfortable with basic DIY, from assembly and insulation through to finishing, drying and curing.

Designed as one complete oven

The kitset is designed as a complete oven, not just a refractory core. The cooking floor and inner dome form the hot chamber and provide the thermal mass that stores heat during firing.

Ceramic fibre insulation surrounds the cooking chamber and helps keep that heat where it is useful. The self supporting base, outer shell and chimney complete the structure and bring the different parts together as one system.

Because the main components are already designed to work together, you are assembling a complete wood fired oven rather than starting with a dome and working out the rest of the construction yourself.

Key specifications

See the oven’s overall dimensions, weight and recommended stand height before planning your installation.

Internal baking area: 900 mm
External dimensions: 1100 Ă— 1165 Ă— 1095 mm
Door opening: approximately 450 Ă— 250 mm
Recommended stand height: 850 mm
Completed oven weight: approximately 600 kg

The build, step by step

The main oven components are prefabricated, so you assemble the oven in a clear sequence rather than build it brick by brick. Each stage builds on the last, from the base and cooking floor through to the dome, insulation, outer shell and final finish.

Prepare the oven base

Place the inner dome

Wrap with insulation

Fit the outer shell

Install the entrance and chimney

Reinforce, seal and finish

What you need before you start

You don’t need specialist masonry skills or tools. The main components are prefabricated, so there is no bricklaying or cutting required for the standard build.

Basic DIY experience and common tools are enough. You will need a stable, level stand or frame, and some of the heavier components are easier to position with another person helping.

Drying and curing

After the build, allow the oven to dry before starting the curing process.

Curing is done over the following days using a series of gradually hotter fires. This slowly removes moisture from the oven and prepares it for full cooking temperatures.

Follow the step by step curing instructions in the manual before your first full cook.

One firing. A changing cooking window.
